Flight prices are not as they appear

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), UK has issued a notice to all the airline companies to change the way they advertise about the ticket fares. According to CIWEM airline companies are misguiding the consumers on the air fares showing only the air fare without the subsidiaries, taxed are other charges added to the fare. This encourages the consumers to make trips which they do not even plan to make causing damage to the consumer in their long term saving and even more serious damage to the environment. This is the reason they also want them to add the carbon emission levels to be added to their advertisements making it clear to the consumers on how much will their trip affect the environment.

CIWEM also wishes to add VAT to the fuel the airline uses for all of their aviation purposes which will help them utilize that VAT amount for all the environmental cost thus helping them save a sufficient amount for other transportation infrastructure. The additional VAT will help government collect almost $14 billion each year from UK and this huge amount will help UK reach their target of cutting down CO2 emissions by eighty percent in the next 40 years by the year 2050.

This cost needs to be immediately implemented on UK as out of every 5 international flight there is one which either lands to the UK or departs from UK making Heathrow one of the busiest airports in the world. Also, only close to about twenty percent of the people in the world travel by air as only they the rich can really afford the service. Thus, CIWEM thinks implementing these high cost should not affect the airways or the people a lot as they will be able to spend those extra bucks which will hugely benefit the environment.

GREAT BRITAIN A LAND OF CASTLES AND PALACES

Royalty is in the air in the very land of Great Britain it seems. At least that is what people who wish travel to the region can think of. A recent report from VisitBritian, the British Tourist Authority stated that as many as ten thousand plus foreigners on tour to the land were given a list of eighteen things that they may like to do in Britain. Add to this, they were told to choose their favorite of the eighteen in order of their preference. When it came to summing up, the top three slots for the things which received the most number of votes went in order of three, two and one: visit to Welsh castles, Buckingham Palace and Scottish castle respectively.

So basically it was all like there is to be visited in the Land of the mighty Queens and Kings; castles and castles and some more castles. The new report was in the mean time named "the appeal of only-in-Britain activities" VisitBritain was engaged in some extensive research before coming out with the results. The results were thus such and they showed that a good thirty four percent of the tourists wanted to make a visit to the palace of Wales. Thirty two percent of them wanted to visit the Buckingham Palace. A little over twenty nine percent wanted to have a night stay at the Scottish Castle. As many as nearly twenty nine percent wanted to watch the majestic visual of the rising sun at the Stonehenge. And the fifth one doesn’t come much as a surprise, but the fact that it enters the list rather too late.

It is that nineteen percent of teen wanted to watch the English premier league match. This was actually in tie with another nineteen percent also going for the fact that they would like to shop at the Harrods. The ones that were thus interviewed were from twenty countries from around the world. It thus also throws light on the fact that one may not ignore the monarchy linked rich UK culture as it thus has the potential of attracting great many tourists.

ASB bank comes to Troubled Traveler’s Rescue

ASB Bank has announced to help travelers who were affected by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

The bank feels that the delay in travel would have created a lot of money problems for travelers which they had never thought about. The financial stress is highly taxing. Taking all this into consideration the bank has decided to make temporary extensions to overdraft or credit card facilities subject to normal lending policies. The bank will not charge the fees for late payments also because of the disruption.

The ASB bank account holders are delighted to hear this news. They can beat the financial issues without worrying much about the repayments. They just need to call on the bank’s dedicated help line or visit the bank to avail the service.

Passengers are not alone hit by financial losses; Air New Zealand has suffered a loss of around $2.5 million.

Immigration New Zealand said it would put aside fees for people who had to apply for permits to remain in New Zealand due to flight delays because of the disruption. The basic fees would not be charged to people whose visas were expired during the one week flight break.

Looks like money is not what people are expecting to make during this crisis situation. It is more about safety and convenience of travelers at this point of time

Southwest Airline Profits but Continental Suffers Losses

Southwest Airlines Co made a decent profit and left behind its competitor Continental. Continental on the other hand reported to have made the biggest loss during the same period.

The first quarter figures are however always uncertain as they fall between summer and winter holidays. The next quarter will see a rise in the air ticket sales as people would go on vacations. The condition is expected to be better in the next quarter.

Southwest CEO said that their June and May bookings have already started and the booking figures look promising. They do not have separate seating for the business class yet they claim most of their customers are business travelers.

Southwest carries the maximum number of U.S. passengers than any other airline. Its first quarter revenue jumped to 11.6% when compared to previous year. The total profit though was just $11 million due to the rising fuel prices.

Oil prices were floating around $83 a barrel on Thursday after a long climb that began in December 2008. The company is worried about the skyrocketing fuel prices.

Southwest further expects its total fuel-related spending to rise by 3% to 5% in the second quarter when compared to the first quarter. This would put a lot of pressure on the air fares and discounts. The airline has also reduced the number of employees per flight by 3% and has no hiring plans for this year.

Continental Airlines Inc however lost $146 million in the first quarter a loss bigger than expected. Delta Air Lines Inc. lost $256 million, while American Airlines parent AMR Corp. lost $505 million.

Rising fuel prices was the main reason for the declining profits as most of the money was spent on fuel alone as price of a gallon of jet fuel jumped up by 17%.

Continental on the other hand is planning to merge with United Airlines, the third-largest U.S. carrier and create world’s largest airline.

The competition is already tough and the fuel prices are further making the condition worse. The trick now lies in balancing the fuel spending and air ticket prices.
