The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), UK has issued a notice to all the airline companies to change the way they advertise about the ticket fares. According to CIWEM airline companies are misguiding the consumers on the air fares showing only the air fare without the subsidiaries, taxed are other charges added to the fare. This encourages the consumers to make trips which they do not even plan to make causing damage to the consumer in their long term saving and even more serious damage to the environment. This is the reason they also want them to add the carbon emission levels to be added to their advertisements making it clear to the consumers on how much will their trip affect the environment.
CIWEM also wishes to add VAT to the fuel the airline uses for all of their aviation purposes which will help them utilize that VAT amount for all the environmental cost thus helping them save a sufficient amount for other transportation infrastructure. The additional VAT will help government collect almost $14 billion each year from UK and this huge amount will help UK reach their target of cutting down CO2 emissions by eighty percent in the next 40 years by the year 2050.
This cost needs to be immediately implemented on UK as out of every 5 international flight there is one which either lands to the UK or departs from UK making Heathrow one of the busiest airports in the world. Also, only close to about twenty percent of the people in the world travel by air as only they the rich can really afford the service. Thus, CIWEM thinks implementing these high cost should not affect the airways or the people a lot as they will be able to spend those extra bucks which will hugely benefit the environment.
